Whitening Toothpastes: Can They Help Give You the Look You Want?

Published by Wayzata Dental Staff at 3:37 pm under Whitening

Whitening one’s smile seems to be something that becomes more important to more people each and every day. Whitening toothpastes, gums and over the counter strips all promise you results, but - when you talk with your dentist about it - you might find that they don’t really deliver.

Whitening toothpastes are, on many levels, just like traditional toothpastes. They have flouride and they help you to clean bacteria and food debris from your teeth. In addition, whitening toothpastes often include baking soda or another abrasive whitener.

While this can help to remove some surface stains, it may not be the most effective way of getting the whiter, brighter smile that you want. On the other hand, you may find that going to see your dentist to learn more about professional whitening procedures that will get you to where you want to be in far less time.

Whitening toothpastes can help, but they are not altogether likely to give you the look that you want: consider using them on a supplemental basis or for the other benefits that they provide.
