Types of Dental Insurance

Typically, dental insurance covers three types of dental treatments:

  • Preventative

  • Restorative
  • Advanced

The preventative category consists of treatments such as dental cleanings, routine check-ups etc.

The restorative category consists of treatments such as fillings, root canal therapies, or tooth extractions.

The other complicated restorative treatments fall in the advanced category.

While buying a dental insurance plan, seek information on all types of coverage. Also, compare rates with other dental insurance agencies. You should choose your dental insurance plan based on your needs. In some insurance plans, you may not be allowed to choose your own dentist, while in others, there may be an upper cut-off for dental treatments. Read the insurance conditions properly before you buy one.

If you have a favorite dentist you visit regularly, make sure your insurance plan can cover his/her fees.

Happy smiling!

Thanks for the much needed info. I just got a new job which pays more, but doesn’t offer benefits, so I’ve been struggling with that. I did, however, come across a dentist that has pretty reasonable rates for patients without insurance. Aspen Dental Family Dentistry also offered financing for a crown that I had to have replaced. Thanks again for the information!
