What are dental crowns?
Dental crowns are restorations for teeth that have been severely affected by cavities or badly broken or damaged. The crown essentially restores the shape of the teeth by filling in the gaps. The adjacent teeth’s shape and structure help design the perfect crowns. A crown is typically made of porcelain. However, crowns made of other restorative materials are also available. Dental crowns are also known as caps as they ‘cap’ the damaged teeth.
What are dental bridges?
Dental bridges are artificial, but close-to-real replacements of your tooth. A bridge helps fill in the gap created by a missing tooth. A dental bridge is made with porcelain or metal.
What is the difference between bridges and crowns?
A dental crown acts as a cover for a damaged tooth while a dental bridge replaces a whole tooth. However, both crowns and bridges are made with the same material.
Dental crowns and bridges are customized restorative solutions. The cover or the artificial tooth is completely made from scratch based on the patient’s teeth structure and needs. The shade of the crown or bridge is made to match the color of the rest of the teeth.
If you have a tooth missing or have damaged teeth, consult your dentist for a restorative treatment.

A dental implant is basicly an artificial tooth root. They are used in prosthetic dentistry to anchor in restorations that look like a tooth or a group of teeth. Professor Per-Ingvar Branemark from Sweden discovered that titanium could be easily fused into bone which forms a structural and functional connection between the titanium implant and living bone. This is because osteoblasts grow onto the rough surface of the implanted titanium.
The typical implant consists of a titanium screw with a roughened surface that is treated by plasma spraying, etching or sandblasting to make it easier for the osteoblasts to grab hold. Most treatments are done over several months through a series of operations under general anesthesia, however, sometimes it can be done in only one visit. Dental implants are becoming increasingly common, but what are they really?
The simplest answer is that, when a tooth is completely lost because of severe decay or an injury or accident, a dental implant can be used by the dentist to create a permanent replacement for the lost tooth. Unlike a partial denture that needs to be removed for cleaning, implants effectively become just another tooth; a support is placed into the jaw, and the “tooth” is secured to it.
Providing a replacement for a single lost tooth might be the most common use of dental implants, however it is not the only purpose that the serve. An implant may be used to secure a full or partial denture in order to get a more secure fit. Implants can also be used as a brace for an existing tooth that is loose but not lost.
In addition to providing cosmetic benefits for the patient - dental implants serve to close gaps and maintain the appearance of a full, healthy smile - there are health benefits as well, most of which involve the patient’s bite. With gaps between the teeth, remaining teeth are likely to shift; that creates disturbances to the bite which causes problems with chewing and, ultimately, getting adequate nutrition.
Those are the basics about dental implants; but the most important thing that you’ll want to know is whether or not they are the right solution for your needs. In order to determine that, you’ll need to make an appointment with your dentist to discuss implants and other options.

Are you missing teeth but not wanting to get dentures? Don’t worry, you don’t have to if you get dental implants. Of course, dental implants will cost you a little more than dentures, but you will find that they are superior in many ways.
- Dental implants are permanently implanted. Your false teeth will look and feel authentic.
- You do not have to remove your false teeth for cleaning. They are cleaned in place.
- Your false teeth will blend in with your real teeth, not stand out like dentures often do.
If you had not considered dental implants but are in need of false teeth, then perhaps it is time that you gave them some thought. They do tend to be a little more expensive, but they are a permanent solution. The titanium that is used to create the implants can last a lifetime. If you would like to know more about the procedure and the costs that are involved, contact us at Wayzata Dental.

Pearly whites that are not so white, damaged or misshapen teeth, chipped teeth, missing teeth, these are not problems that you have to live with. Cosmetic dentistry can fix them and it is probably easier, less painful and less time consuming than you imagined.
One relatively minor problem that can have major consequences for our self esteem is teeth discoloration. Teeth discolor naturally with age, as a result of the food and drinks that we consume and from smoking. Whitening is a very simple cosmetic dentistry procedure that can be performed to great effect right here at Wayzata Dental. In a single sitting you can have teeth that are on average eight shades whiter, thanks to Zoom.
For bigger problems we have other solutions. If you teeth are misaligned, chipped, misshapen, crooked or very severely discolored, we are able to cover them with veneers. Veneers are custom made and custom fitted facades for your teeth. They fit like a cap and are indistinguishable from your real teeth. They require only a small amount of enamel to be removed so that they fit flush with the gum line. Fitting veneers is a cosmetic dentistry procedure that has restored confidence to countless dental patients around the world.
Dental implants can solve the problem of missing teeth. A titanium screw is implanted in the jaw and a false tooth is attached to the screw. Implants are the best way to permanently attach a false tooth. The tooth need not be removed for cleaning, you can brush it as you would your normal teeth. This is one of the more involved and costly cosmetic dentistry procedures, but the results are very impressive.

Of all the dental procedures you can get, dental implants are probably the most expensive. The cost of the procedure is often compounded by the fact that most forms of dental insurance will not cover the cost of implants. There are, however, some very good reasons for getting dental implants.
Dental implants are quite simply the most effective way to completely replace a tooth. A small titanium screw is implanted in the jaw. The screw is used to anchor a false tooth. Dental implants are permanent and safe from rejection. Titanium is not rejected by the human body.
What makes dental implants worth the cost is the fact that they are such a complete solution. Once in place, they can remain for life. With your false tooth implanted, you can go about a regular maintenance routine. They are also especially suitable if one is missing a single tooth. False teeth can now be designed to look absolutely authentic. Anchoring them into a dental implant is a why to make them feel authentic. If you are interested in learning more about dental implants and think that they may be an option for you, come into Wayzata Dental and talk to one of our dentists.

A lot of people are put off the prospect of dental implants because of the nature of the treatment. A dental implant is quite simply a tiny screw that is implanted in your jaw. The screw is constructed from titanium so as to minimize the chance that it would be rejected by your body. The advantage of dental implants is that they allow a false tooth to be kept in your mouth permanently. Such false teeth are almost indistinguishable from real teeth.
Admittedly, it does sound rather gruesome, but the fact is that most people experience only minimal discomfort while they recover from the surgery. The surgery itself can be done under local anesthesia, and is quite painless. Dental implants have proven themselves time and time again to be a great way for people who need false teeth to enjoy all of the benefits of real teeth. With dental implants you do not need to take your teeth out at night and put them back into your mouth in the morning. They are in your mouth to stay, just like real teeth. That is what has made them so popular in recent years.

A dental implant is a screw that is used to hold false teeth in place. The screw connects a false tooth or a set of false teeth to the jaw. The advantage of dental implants is that they are perfectly concealed no one will be aware that they are there. In fact, if you have implants fitted, it is possible to forget that they are there.
Dental implants are generally made of metals that are considered biologically compatible. Titanium is popular, as it is strong, lightweight and resists corrosion. Once implanted, the titanium dental implants are there to stay. They allow you to keep your false tooth or teeth permanently attached. Dental implants have proven themselves time and time again. Most dentists consider them the best option for people that need false teeth.
