What is CEREC?
CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. It refers to a one-sitting restoration of teeth with the help of computers and certain software.
What happens in the CEREC restoration?
With the help of three-dimensional imaging and the technology of Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacturing, popularly knows as CAD/CAM, a ceramic crown or veneer is created which is then fixed into the patient’s mouth.
In this process, the patient’s tooth is coated with a powder-like material and then a three-dimensional image is taken. With the help of appropriate software, a design of the perfect restoration (crown, veneer, inlay, or onlay) is created. This design is passed down to machines that create the restoration in a matter of minutes.
What are the advantages of CEREC?
Typically, it takes two visits to the dentist over a span of a week or two to get a veneer, inlay, onlay, or crown to be fixed on a person’s teeth. However, with CEREC, the process is reduced to one visit. A ceramic restoration can be created in less than 20 minutes! Apart from saving time, the CEREC restoration ensures that patients are free from any discomfort arising out of temporary crowns or filing prior to the final restoration.
A last word
Make sure you visit a trained and experienced dentist who has expertise in CEREC restoration. It is important to get this treatment done by experts in the matter.
Happy smiling!

You may have heard about a product called Cerec, but do you know what it is or how it can help you? Cerec is a dental restoration product that helps dentists produce near perfect ceramic dental restoration using the latest technology including 3D photography and CAD/CAM.
Development on the Cerec method started in 1980 at the University of Zurich. By 2002, there were more than 2,500 Cerec users in the United States. The way it works is by 3D cameras, a picture of your mouth is taken and your ceramic implants are carved to perfectly fit them.
Some of the advantages of the Cerec system include the proceedure being less invasive than other crown proceedures and the repair tends to last longer. Another advantage is that usually you only need to go in for one visit instead of many of them. A disadvantage for the system includes time consuming proceedures like powdering the teeth.

If you are getting a lot of dental work done, you may here the term Cerec around quite a bit, but what is it and what does it do? Cerec is a dental restoration product that helps dentists to produce ceramic dental restoration using computers and computer technology to help it.
The best thing about Cerec is that restoring a tooth can be performed in a single sitting with a patient because the cavity is photographed and stored as a three dimentional digital model. A special software is used to figure out the approximate restoration shape using biogeneric comparisons to the teeth that surround the tooth that needs to be restored. Once the dental practitioner refines the model, a milling machine carves the restoration out of a ceramic block using diamond cutters and driven by the computer. When it is carved, the dentist can bond it to the tooth using resin, making restoring teeth quick and easy.
So how do you explain it in easy English? A computer takes a picture of your tooth and makes the restoration while you wait so that you don’t have to make multiple trips to the dentist! Its as simple as that! Ask your dentist about using Cerec for your next tooth restoration!

CEREC is just one way that modern technology has impacted dentistry in recent years, if you are unfamiliar with the concept of CEREC, it is a system that uses a combination of technologies in order to allow a dentist, to measure, make and fit a crown in a single sitting. The Wikipedia explanation of CEREC illuminates the topic a little more:
“CEREC is a dental restoration product that allows a dental practitioner to produce an indirect ceramic dental restoration using a variety of computer assisted technologies including 3D photography and CAD/CAM. The restoration of a tooth, (or teeth), can be performed in a single sitting with the patient. The cavity preparation is first photographed and stored as a three dimensional digital model and proprietary software is then used to approximate the restoration shape using biogeneric comparisons to surrounding teeth. The practitioner then refines that model using 3D CAD software. When the model is complete a milling machine carves the actual restoration out of a ceramic block using diamond head cutters under computer control. When complete, the restoration is bonded to the tooth using a resin. CEREC is an acronym that stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics.”

Dentistry, like any other field has seen some dramatic changes thanks to modern technology. Dentists that have kept up-to-date with the latest trends in technology, have found that it gives them enormous advantages. You will be pleased to know that dentists in Minneapolis are among those that are adopting high technology in their practices. How can modern technology help a dentist in his or her practice?
Most people have heard of CAD (Computer Aided Design), it is software that was initially used by architects and engineers. As computer technology advanced, it became extremely important in designing fabrication processes. These days, everything from the watch on your wrist to the house that you live in is designed with CAD software. As computer power has advanced, the applications of CAD have increased. Now a dentist has to study CAD, just as architects have long had to. CEREC is a system that combines 3-D imaging with CAD and extremely precise computer modeling to fabricate dental crowns on demand. A dentist that can fabricate crowns using CEREC has an enormous advantage. Instead of taking several visits, a crown can now be designed, fabricated and fitted in a single sitting. At Wayzata Dental, right here in Minneapolis, our dentists have been making use of CEREC for some time.
Here at Wayzata Dental, we are very pleased to be able to offer CEREC services to our customers. CEREC is just one area where high technology is put to use by dentists in our practice. To learn more about CEREC or our high tech advantage, please come into our Minneapolis dental clinic.

Have you heard of CEREC? CEREC is an exciting new technology that has changed the way people think of dental crowns. You do not need to think back too far to remember the days that having a crown fitted was a long, time consuming process. The biggest part of the process was having the crown made by hand. Crafting a dental crown was a time consuming process that required a highly skilled dental technician. Your dentist would take precise measurements and pass them on to a dental technician who would make your crown by hand. The trouble was that this often took quite a lot of time. Obviously, you would have to have an appointment to take the necessary measurements. At that time, a temporary crown was usually fitted. You would then need to return to your dentist once the permanent crown was complete, have the temporary crown removed and have the permanent crown fitted. That all required a lot of time and a dental procedure that is now unnecessary.
With CEREC, there are no temporary crowns, there is no waiting for a dental technician and there is no second visit. Your crown can be designed, cut and fitted in a single sitting. CEREC is a relatively new high-tech system that allows crowns to be computer designed and created in minutes instead of days. If your dentist has decided that you need a crown, he or she will take a number of three dimensional photographs of the space that needs to be covered by the crown. The crown will then be designed on a computer and cut from a ceramic block using a special computer controlled cutting machine. In a very short time, an extremely precise ceramic crown will be produced. Then all the dentist needs to do is fit it.
Here at Wayzata Dental, we are proud to offer CEREC services to our patients. If you have any questions about CEREC or about crowns, please do not hesitate to ask.

While most dental crowns will last for many years, they are prone to some of the same problems that your regular teeth face. Crowns can break or get damaged just like your regular teeth. If you find that one of your crowns has become loose or has been damaged, time is of the essence. If your crown is loose, a dentist might be able to refit it. If your crown is damaged, it is probably going to need to be replaced.
Fortunately, these days, crown replacement is a relatively simple procedure. Wayzata Dental makes use of CEREC equipment. CEREC eliminates one of the major inconveniences when it comes to crowns and allows a crown to be designed and fabricated in minutes. Cerec turns what was once a lengthy procedure, that would often take at least two visits to the dentist, into a single visit. It also allows your dentist to create the perfect crown for your mouth. Three-dimensional photography equipment is used to create a precise computer model of the crown. The crown is then cut from a ceramic block using a computer based cutting tool. Once the crown is cut, it can be fit.
If you had your original crown fitted ten or fifteen years ago, chances are that it would have been a lengthy procedure. Furthermore, the crown that you got would probably not have been as precise a fit as crowns created using CEREC. Some crowns become loose because of slight imperfections in their fabrication. they were At Wayzata Dental your dentist will inform you of the best course of action in relation to your loose or damaged crown. If it fits well enough, they might be able to save it. If it doesn’t, then you can be fitted with a new one in a short amount of time.

CEREC is a means of using 3D photography and computer modeling that allows dentists to measure, build and fit a crown in a single sitting. Older people will remember a day when a crown fitting was a major procedure. It would involve one sitting for measurement, then perhaps a temporary crown would be fitted. The measurements would then be taken off to a dental technician that would make the crown. At a second appointment, the temporary crown would be removed and the permanent crown would be fitted. A long procedure that has now thankfully been rendered redundant by CEREC.
The advantage of CEREC is not only that you can have your crown in a single sitting. Fitting and removing temporary crowns can be quite uncomfortable. CEREC effectively cuts out two unnecessary dental procedures. The time that you spend in the dentists chair is of course substantially reduced. If you are interested in CEREC for your next crown, make an appointment with Wayzata Dental.

CEREC is a tool that is employed by better dentists in order to allow for better restoration of a tooth or teeth. It makes use of a number of computer technologies. If you are familiar with CAD/CAM, you will know that it is 3D modelling software, often employed by architects. CEREC uses CAD/CAM in combination with 3D photography to allow for more accurate creation of your dental restoration in a timely fashion.
Not only does CEREC help design the dental restoration, it also makes it. A milling machine will cut the restoration out of a ceramic block to the exact specifications that were laid out in the program. There is no guesswork involved with CEREC, computer design and cutting allow a level of precision that was unknown until recent years.
CEREC means that it is possible in many cases to complete a restoration in a single sitting. If you are interested in this technology and would like to know more about it, Wayzata Dental makes use of CEREC for some types of restoration. CEREC can eliminate the need for a second visit and for temporary restorations.
